Do Non-surgical Treatments Really Get Rid of Wrinkles?

Q: How realistic are non-surgical procedures, for example will I notice a definite improvement in my wrinkles?

A: Good question! Not every treatment works well for every patient. We spend time during the consultation to do a thorough analysis to determine which will work best for your situation. When selected properly, patients will see definite improvement.

New high-tech procedures such as DeepFX have made a dramatic improvement in the effectiveness of non-surgical anti-aging procedures. Additionally, there have been advances made in wrinkle fillers such as Evolence, and others to make these injectable fillers last much longer than they did even 2 years ago.

Will my health insurance cover my Breast Reduction?

Q: Will my health insurance cover my Breast Reduction?

A: I often get questions from breast reduction patients regarding whether or not their health insurance will cover the breast reduction. Typically, breast reduction surgery is only covered if the reduction is greater than 1,000 grams of tissue.

A recent study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed that a breast reduction of even a modest amount could significantly help improve a patient's quality of life and ease some of the pain associated with very large breasts (a condition known as macromastia).

This study was particularly interesting in that one of its goals was to test whether the 1,000g benchmark had any basis in scientific fact, or was an arbitrary number.

The study included 59 patients, all of whom had breast reductions of less than 1,000g. All of these patients reported significant decreases in upper and lower back pain, shoulder pain, breast pain, and more. Also, patients reported an increased ability to play sports, an easier time in finding clothes that fit, and a better quality of life post-breast reduction.

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Q: What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?

A: Liposuction is used to remove localized areas of fat. A tummy tuck on the other hand is used to reduce the amount of loose skin in the abdomen area. Typically, the need for this develops following child birth.

Recently, there have been studies showing that combining these two treatments into a procedure called "LipoAbdominoplasty" may yield the best results.

Why Didn't my Botox Work?

Q: I have had Botox injected successfully twice. This time I went to someone else and the Botox didn’t take. What could cause this?

A: There are many reasons this could have happened. It’s possible that outdated Botox was used. After dilution Botox is good for 2 weeks only. Some doctors dilute Botox too much to try and treat more patients with one bottle. It’s also possible that the doctor missed the muscle and placed the Botox too deep, or that not enough was used.

What's a "Mommy Makeover"?

Q: What is a “Mommy Makeover”?

A: A "Mommy Makeover" is usually considered to be a combination of procedures like tummy tucks, breast augmentation, and breast lifts, and in some cases Liposuction. According to ASPS statistics, “Mommy Makeovers” saw an 11 percent increase from 2005 to 2006 in women ages 20-39, and were among the most popular procedures.

With women giving birth later, trying to juggle motherhood, while managing their careers and busy schedules, cosmetic surgery has become a great solution to returning to pre-pregnancy shape.

Can I have Liposuction on multiple areas of my body during one visit?

Q: I'm thinking about having liposuction for my upper arms, front and back of armpit area. I'm not extremely overweight, but these areas have not gotten any smaller with exercise, and are out of proportion with the rest of my body. Can this all be done at once?

A: Liposuction is a great way to treat these areas. All of the areas you mention can be operated on in one session. In fact, many of our patients find doing this all at once preferable to minimize recovery time.

Are Silicone Breast Implants Safe?

Q: I'm looking for information on breast implants. Specifically, I'd like more information on silicone implants. How long do they last? What are the pros to these implants now, as opposed to years ago when there were questions about leakage and possible side effects?

A: The silicone implants of today are a totally different product than they were 10 - 15 years ago. The breast implant's shell is thicker, which makes them more durable, and the silicone gel used now is also made differently. There is a tremendous variety of styles and shapes available to suit all tastes.

Will My Breast Implants Look Natural?

Q: I would like a breast enlargment, but I'm nervous about the procedure and the final physical appearence. I was a D cup when I was younger, a EE cup when I was pregnant and now I am a small B. I would like a full C or D cup, is it possible to look natural, firm, but not stiff?

A: Changes over time in breast size are very common. With a breast augmentation, there are over 100 different options for shape, size, style, materials used, etc. Finding an implant that looks natural for you in either a C or D cup should not be a problem. Anyone can go to a C or D cup but the width of the breast, volume of breast tissue and amount of fat determine the possibility of issues.

Can I Breast Feed if I Have Breast Implants?

Q: I have breast implants, and I’m going to be having a baby. I remember something about not being able to breast feed after having breast implants. My Ob/Gyn is telling me it's okay to breast feed. Is this true?

A: It is perfectly fine for you to breast feed-the implants should not have any effect on breast feeding. I wish you much joy and happiness on your new journey.

Does Mesotherapy Work?

Q: I started mesotherapy treatments a few months ago. I have had 4 so far but don't see any significant change. I opted for it instead of liposuction because it was non-surgical, and less expensive. I am a size 8, eat right, excercise and I'm in good health. Does mesotherapy usually work, or is liposuction the only thing that really will?

A: I do not recommend Mesotherapy. The drugs, vitamins, etc. put into the injections may vary, and some are not approved for the mesotherapy procedure. In general, 10 - 15 treatments are often recommended, and at $500 per treatment, the costs are substantial, especially for a treatment that often does not produce results.
